The science behind durable vitrification

Low-temperature earthenware absorbs water when washed, leading to hidden mold growth and easy chipping in the microwave.

At Dish House, all ceramic dinnerware is fired at Cone 6 (1,240°C) where silica melts and seals every clay pore into dense stoneware. The resulting matrix cannot absorb liquids, resists thermal expansion shocks, and retains dinner heat during tabletop serving.

Our mineral glazes contain no lead or cadmium leachates, meeting strict food contact regulations for commercial dining.

Common questions about dining ceramics

Everyday care, stacking durability, and broken item replacement terms.

Do matte glaze finishes show grey knife marks over time?

Inferior matte ceramics have a rough microscopic tooth that scrapes metal off cutlery blades, causing grey marks. Our stoneware uses a micro-melt satin glaze formulated with zirconium silicates that is harder than standard stainless flatware. Metal transfer is minimal and easily removed with baking soda.

Can I purchase individual replacements if a plate breaks?

Yes. While dinner plates and coupe bowls are boxed in sets of four, our Monroe Street retail floor stocks open-stock singles for customer replacements. Inquire at our counter or phone +1 (340) 865-6875 for open-stock availability.

Can stoneware bowls go straight from refrigerator to microwave?

Yes. The vitrified stoneware body accommodates thermal differentials up to 175°C (350°F) without cracking. However, avoid placing chilled ceramics directly on open stovetop burner flames.
